4/18/26 Annual Mesquite Festival 225 people attended the festival at the Hassayampa River Preserve and learned about the importance of mesquite to the natives and to modern day harvesters. Nutritional and Medicinal uses of native plants; Desert Beans; and Mesquite in the Kitchen workshops were all well attended. Co-sponsored by Wickenburg Conservation Fdn., Friends of Hassayampa, Hassayampa River Preserve, and Desert Awareness Committee. Don't miss our 2027 festival April 17.
4/8/26 Wickenburg Christian Academy 5th and 1st graders enjoyed a morning at the Pulte Trail planting seeds, making seed balls, completing scavenger hunts and learning about the desert's wildlife and geology and how to enjoy the desert without leaving a trace.
10/25/25 American Heritage Girls troop visited the Hassayampa River Preserve. WCF Desert Awareness instructors led tours and shared information about fossils/rocks, desert safety and environmental career opportunities for 36 students ages 6-18 and their parents.

Nadaburg Elementary School's Monarch Waystation is now complete with interpretive kiosk and signage. Mrs. Watson's 4th graders "dug" right in to help plant Autumn Sage, Mexican Honeysuckle and Desert Milkweed, all of which attract pollinators (butterflies, hummingbirds and bees) needed to grow fruits and vegetables.
