• Maintain the 15-mile Sophie’s Flat trail system in partnership with Bureau of Land Management. Semi- annual trail work includes clearing brush overhang and repairing damaged trail sections.
  • Help with fuels reduction at a close-in 33 acre tract of land used for outdoor education.
  • Monitor trails for needed repairs and sign damage.
  • Lead classes for students or adults. Popular topics include Desert Survival, Birding, Photography, Desert Plants and Animals, Astronomy, Geology, Scat and Tracks, Geocaching and Orienteering.
  • Be an on-site or on-call docent for one of four Citizen Science phenology (study of the seasonal changes in plants and animals over time) trails.
  • Assist with classes: Leave No Trace (responsible enjoyment of the desert) and Hug A Tree and Survive (teach students how to stay safe when they become lost).
  • Assist with planning and chaperoning or leading activities for a 2 day/overnight camp for students ages 8-12 during the spring and fall breaks.
  • Assist with planning and hosting fundraisers.
  • Assist with publicity: traditional, web-based, and social media.
